Islam Makhachev named the opponent for the next fight in the UFC

If the league is having difficulty arranging his next title defense, reigning UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev is ready to challenge Britain’s Leon Edwards, who holds the UFC welterweight belt.

“UFC in Abu Dhabi, October 21 – Makhachev vs. Edwards. How do you like it? ”, The Russian wrote on the social network, noting the UFC and the organization’s television partner, ESPN.

According to the UFC plan, Islam Makhachev should hold another title defense on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, however, the question of his opponent is still relevant.

In particular, Charles Oliveira, who defeated Benil Dariush in a challenge match, said that he could not fight in October, asking to postpone the title fight to November or December, and Alexander Volkanovski, who unified the interim and current UFC featherweight titles ten days ago, was successfully operated, and obviously will not be able to start a new training camp anytime soon.

As for the BMF title fight between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje, who will headline UFC 291 in Salt Lake City on July 29, there are serious doubts that the winner will be able to return to the octagon in October.

Note that the welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington has not yet been officially announced, and the Briton himself said that he wants to defend his title at the autumn event in Abu Dhabi.
