Former UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, answered the question of in which case he would agree to fight undefeated Shavkat Rakhmonov, who trains with him at the same club.
“I would only agree to this fight if it was a title fight,” MMAmania quotes the Nigerian. “In the end, each of us wants to be a champion. When you reach the top level, you set yourself the goal of becoming a champion.”
“If I become champion again, I can’t refuse him a chance at the championship. In all other cases, this fight does not make sense, since we train with the same coaches. Why do we need this?
Shavkat Rakhmonov will hold his next fight on September 16 in Las Vegas against Kelvin Gastelum, and Kamaru Usman cannot yet agree with the UFC on a fight against Khamzat Chimaev.
Currently, Kamaru Usman and Shavkat Rakhmonov occupy the first and sixth lines in the UFC welterweight rankings, respectively.
