In Rio de Janeiro, the UFC 283 tournament ended, in the main event of which the American Jamal Hill defeated the Brazilian Glover Teixeira and won the vacant UFC light heavyweight championship belt.
The title fight went all the way, following five rounds of which the judges by unanimous decision with a score of 50-44 gave the victory three times to Hill, who dominated his opponent on the stand and gave Teixeira one of the heaviest beatings of his career.
In the second, third and fourth rounds, the American was close to an early victory, but the Brazilian veteran, whose face turned into a bloody mask by the final five minutes due to numerous cuts, showed incredible stamina, giving referee Mark Goddard reason not to stop the fight.
In a post-match interview, 31-year-old Jamal Hill announced that he was ready to defend his championship belt against any challenger, and 43-year-old Glover Teixeira announced his retirement from a professional fighter career.
In the co-main event of the event, Brandon Moreno, in the fourth confrontation with Deiveson Figueredo, unified the interim and current UFC flyweight titles, defeating the Brazilian ahead of time.
After two close rounds, in the third five-minute period, the Mexican delivered a sweeping side kick to the left, hitting the opponent’s eye with the knuckle of his thumb. During the break, Figueredo’s right eye closed permanently, causing the doctor to recommend to referee Herb Dean to stop the fight.
After the fight, Deiveson Figueredo, who lost his current title, announced that he had finished his run in the flyweight division and was moving up to bantamweight.
In the third most important event of the tournament, former UFC welterweight championship contender Gilbert Burns finished American Neil Magny with a hand triangle choke in the first round.
Among other results, we note the unsuccessful performance of the legendary Brazilian Mauricio Hua, who in the farewell fight lost by TKO in the first round to the Ukrainian Igor Potera, as well as another defeat of the Russian heavyweight Shamil Abdurakhimov, who lost by TKO in the second round to the Brazilian finisher Jailton Almeida.
Johnny Walker, Bruno Ferreira, Thiago Moises, Gabriel Bonfim, Ismael Bonfim and Daniel Marcos added early victories to their assets.
