While Jon Jones is set to make his heavyweight debut, former rival Daniel Cormier does not rule out former UFC light heavyweight champion having a weight advantage over natural heavyweight Stipe Miocic.
“I think it’s a close match because I shared the octagon with both guys,” Cormier said in a recent episode of his ESPN analytics program. “Jones has a different arsenal than Miocic, but Stipe has crazy weapons. For a big guy, Miocic can do a lot of things, and he does it very well, and the fact that Jones is moving up from light heavyweight adds to the intrigue.
“Stipe is a natural heavyweight and Jones is bigger now than ever – he’s a big boy now. But Miocic loses weight quite a bit at times, which adds unknown variables to the storyline – will Stipe be bigger than usual or smaller? Will Jones get even bigger as he gets closer to the fight? I do not rule out that he will be bigger than Miocic. All this is extremely interesting and really intriguing.”
According to unconfirmed information, the fight for the interim UFC heavyweight title between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic will take place on July 2 at UFC 276 in Las Vegas.
