Michael Chandler criticized Islam Makhachev’s winning streak

Former UFC lightweight contender Michael Chandler doesn’t think Islam Makhachev’s impressive ten-fight winning streak is reason enough to demand a title shot.

“It’s hard to say for sure,” the American fighter said in an interview with The Schmo. “People talk about winning streaks and it’s obvious that he has an impressive streak. Plus, he looks extremely dominant. He and I had a common opponent, Dan Hooker, whom he, like me, finished in the first round. And it was the first time he fought an opponent from the top 10 division and declared himself as a guy who will fight for the title in the future.

In this regard, Chandler considers it reasonable for the UFC to decide not to bring the Russian to the champion, but to hold a failed duel between Islam Makhachev and Benil Dariush.

“Beating Bobby Green, you can’t count on a title shot. Other than Dan Hooker, there is no one else in his winning streak that has been in the top 10 in the division. So I think he and Benil Dariush need to fight. It’s a great match, their strengths complement each other very well as they are both grapplers.”

“I think the UFC is the best promotion on the planet and they know what they are doing and they know how to make great fights. Islam needs to keep sharpening its teeth on rivals inside the top 10 in the lightweight division.”

Recall that Michael Chandler will hold his next fight on May 7 at UFC 274 in Phoenix against former interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson.
